Who was Hatshepsut?
Hapshetsut was born to the father Thutmose I in 1473 BC. She was the eldest of two daughters and when her father died she married her half-brother Thutmose II at the age of 12 and became queen of Egypt. Her half-brother was the son of Thutmose I and a secondary wife. Thutmose II died around 1492 BC and the throne went to his infant son who was born to a secondary wife not Hapshetsut. She decided to become Thutmose III's regent and took over the royal affairs. Hatshepsut didn't want her step-son/half-brother to be near the throne so she kept him away and made him join the army when he came close to the age of taking over the throne. In her mind this made her the queen and she began acting as the ruler of Egypt.
Her death is considered a controversy because for years her mummy was never found. In 1903 British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered her sarcophagus but it was empty. In 2005 another team of archaeologists started a new search and her mummy was found in 2007 which is now located in an Egyptian Museum. According to historians it is said that she died around 1458 BC.
